Before Fairchild, Lynn Bjorklund set the 3000 record of 9:08.60 in 1975 during a US v. USSR dual meet in Kiev. In 1996 Kim Mortensen ran a 9:48.60 3200 in a CIF qualifying round that is recognized as the national record at the distance.
