There are few standards in the sport of track and field as compelling as the four-minute mile. It's a mark that 312 Americans have achieved since Dan Bowden ran the first in 1957. Of those 312, only four have hit the mark as high school athletes and in that time.
We've invited the top high school milers from across the country and have brought together a deep field of this year's best. The field includes the indoor national record holder in the 800m and 1000m, four sub-9 3200m runners and the 2008 National Foot Locker runner-up among the many other credentials this group carries.

Above is video of Portland's last high school sub-four attempt. Galen Rupp of Portland, Stuart Eagon of Beaverton and Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott of Albuquerque made their attempt to add their names to the list of Ryun, Danielson, Liquori and Webb. It was a rare event and Portland track fans came out by the hundreds to watch this single race at Lincoln High School. The Sub-4 mark was just missed but the effort was as inspiring as Alan Webb's last successful attempt at Hayward Field in 2001.
